Our Durbanville College Curriculum

Reddam House Durbanville College offers both the Independent Examination Board and Cambridge curricula from Grade 10 to Grade 12. Grade 7-9 students follow a curriculum designed to meet the requirements of both the Cambridge and Independent Examination Board.

The Cambridge International (CI) curriculum for high school is internationally recognised and devised through the University of Cambridge Education faculty. It is based on the delivery of a coherent and high quality curriculum with guaranteed assessment standards and top resources underpinned by sound training and professional development.

In the College, Cambridge International has two main assessments; IGCSE and AS/A-levels.  These exams are usually taken in grade 11 and grade 12 respectively, with A-levels as a choice for post matric. The results of these internationally set, run and marked exams are transferable and accepted in every major university in the world – including universities and tertiary colleges in South Africa. This educational programme prepares its candidates for workplace critical thinking and problem solving.

The Independent Examination Board (IEB) is a South African assessment body accredited by Umalusi, which is the Quality Assurance Council for general and further education and training. The IEB emphasises in-depth understanding and the application of knowledge, rather than rote memorisation. Results are accepted by all universities and tertiary colleges in South Africa.

Students carry the same subjects from Grade 10 until Grade 12. Compulsory subjects include:
English Home Language, Afrikaans First additional Language, Core Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy and Life Orientation. Students must chose an additional 3 elective subjects.
