Outstanding Pre-School Education

Choosing the right start to your child’s educational journey is one of the most important decisions you’ll make — and we are honoured to walk that journey with you. The transition into our Early Learning School is the bridge between the two most important worlds in your child’s life — home and school.

At our Pre-School, we’ve created a calm, welcoming and thoughtfully designed environment for children from 1 to 6 years of age (Stage 1 to Stage 5). Where every child feels secure, supported and inspired to learn.

A Message From Our Head

Durbanville Preschool Headteacher

In our Early Learning School, we believe in the beauty of reciprocity, teaching our children the blessing of giving and receiving in equal measure, this being the cornerstone of our ‘We Shall Give Back’ ethos. We understand that personal, social and emotional development is paramount, for it equips our young ones to step into the world as contributing, socially responsible citizens, fully prepared for the path they tread.

We are dedicated to fostering critical thinking, encouraging our children to venture beyond the confines of convention and embrace creativity. To achieve this, we create a nurturing, ‘home away from home’, where love is the foundation of their growth and exploration.

Why Choose Our Early Learning School

At our Early Learning School (nursery school), we combine the best of international and local early childhood education practices in a warm, nurturing environment that feels like a second home.

Our high adult-to-child ratio ensures that each child is truly known and celebrated. Social-emotional learning, resilience and kindness are gently cultivated through daily routines, meaningful interactions and our “We Shall Give Back” motto — instilling empathy and a strong sense of community from an early age.

Our beautifully designed environments support a wide range of rich experiences — from movement and sport to music, drama and imaginative play. These opportunities help children build confidence, develop healthy habits and discover their unique interests.

At Reddam House Durbanville’s Early Learning School, you’re choosing more than an outstanding education — you are choosing a joyful, grounded beginning filled with possibility, connection and care.

Our Preschool Curriculum

We aim to offer a deeply rewarding pre-school (nursery school) experience filled with curiosity, imagination, growth and meaningful relationships. We want every child to feel seen, valued and to develop a love for learning that stays with them for life.

Our educators follow the Cambridge Early Years curriculum. This is thoughtfully enriched with inspiration from the Reggio Emilia philosophy and aligned with South African learning expectations, ensuring a confident and well-rounded transition into Primary School — wherever that path may lead.

The Inspired Approach to Early Learning

At Reddam House, our Inspired Approach to Early Learning is rooted in the globally respected Reggio Emilia philosophy, which honours each child as capable, curious and full of potential.

We believe that children express themselves in many ways — through movement, art, construction, dance, storytelling and more. Reggio Emilia calls these the “100 Languages of Children,” and we make space for each one. Our educators act as co-learners and guides, offering open-ended materials and thoughtfully curated spaces that invite discovery, experimentation and creative expression. This ensures that learning is not only joyful and purposeful, but also deeply connected to each child’s voice, culture and context.

An Environment That Inspires Belonging and Growth

Our classrooms are rich in natural materials and open-ended resources, encouraging choice, collaboration and creativity. From cosy corners to shared project spaces, every area is designed to provoke wonder, storytelling, problem-solving and connection.

In these nurturing spaces, guided by skilled and observant teachers, children develop independence, empathy and emotional literacy — key tools that prepare them not only for the next stage of school, but for life beyond the classroom.

We believe in strong partnerships with parents and we welcome you into this journey with open communication, transparency and shared celebrations of your child’s growth.

Communication Skills

We believe that our young learners communicate in a variety of ways - the 'One Hundred Languages of Children' described in the Reggio Emilia approach to education. Our teachers are all experienced educators who know how to respond best to the needs of children in a way that both nurtures and gently guides them as they develop healthy and practical ways to express themselves.  Our infant education programme inspires children to confidently take part in activities, use their imagination and begin to develop their creative and critical thinking skills. We aim to support students to learn independently and we believe this is the most important part of the education we provide at our Early Learning School.

Facilities and Resources

At our Preschool in Durbanville, each of our well resourced rooms have been carefully curated to provide a calm, creative and engaging environment. Classrooms have an abundance of natural objects, matched with palettes of paint or jars of crayons to inspire each child to explore pattern, shape and colour. We encourage role play with construction areas that have the beginning of a building to provide inspiration and motivation for children to extend their own imaginative play. In every corner of every room, there is  something to spark the children's interest so that they can begin to direct their own learning and find answers to their own questions.

Early Learning School Teachers

Children attending our Early Learning School close to Cape Town are welcomed each morning by their teachers who support them to make the transition between home and school. Our teachers are all carefully chosen for their expertise and dedication to nurturing young minds and they are skilled observers who can quickly determine individual needs and build on the existing skills and talents of the children in their care.

Our methodology, based on the Reggio Emilia approach to learning, encourages a feeling of belonging and instils an innate confidence in the children. Teaching staff ensure that the learning environment is welcoming and authentic, and their warm and relaxed style of tuition helps the children to feel safe and supported. Large display boards throughout the classrooms are used to present children's work and demonstrate progress, making learning visible and fostering an understanding of the processes and patterns that are the foundations of their studies.
